Empedocles believed that nature was composed of four elements, which he called the “root”. These four roots are earth, air, fire and water. All natural processes are the result of the fusion and decay of those four elements. Sport car you don’t stop racing when you get old poster. Everything is a mixture of earth, air, fire and water in different proportions. When a flower or an animal dies, he says, the four elements separate. We can see this change with the naked eye. But earth and air, fire and water last forever, unaffected by all the compounds they are part of. Basically, nothing has changed. All phenomena that happen is just the combination and division and then the combination of elements.
